Statement

I have uploaded a selection of my art created through a range of different media: Watercolour and acrylic paint, ink, line drawings and digital art. I have included various stages of my works, from initial drawings to final pieces. I'm drawn to the illustrative side of art - I often enjoy depicting objects and people from life through sketch and line drawing, although I also take pleasure in painting and photography. My inspiration is drawn from life; whether it is through people, objects, animals or my surroundings. However, I also find “popular culture” enthusing, especially films, and refer to it often in my art. The concept of "Character" is something I find intriguing and, especially in my drawings of people, is something I strive to pertain in my illustrations.

Digital art is a medium I have been attempting to grasp for several years; I realised that a lot of illustrators in the industry deployed digital media to create their art, and strove to expand my art to the area. I take pleasure in creating both traditional and digital art and have realised both hold many advantages and disadvantages for my approaches, however, I have often used both media in my works.

Overall, I would say that my interest lies in Illustration and Animation; the concept of capturing the essence of movement through art is something that captured my imagination from an early age. Having been inspired by animated feature films such as those by Studio Ghibli and Pixar, as well as Video-game graphics, I decided to direct my work towards this area many years ago and I have endeavored to gain the necessary skills and to specialise my art in Animation and Illustration.  I believe the course offered by your institution would be most beneficial to me, and it would allow me to explore both my interest in Animation and Illustration fully.
